Music video helmer Sam Bayer will direct Universal's action-thriller Fiasco Heights, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by newcomer Kyle Ward, the story centres on a gunman and private detective who unite to track down a femme fatale and a mysterious briefcase. The movie will take inspiration from the film noir genre.

Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are serving as producers through their Platinum Dunes production company.

Bayer rose to prominence after directing the video for Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. He has also worked on videos for acts such as Metallica, Green Day, Sheryl Crow, David Bowie and The Strokes.
