News of the remake, to be made by Sky Movies in partnership with MTV, broke earlier in the week, with creator O'Brien touted for a co-producer role.
However, the 66-year-old told the BBC that talk of his involvement was inaccurate: "I'm not co-producing it and I won't be involved in any way. The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from US papers."
O'Brien stated that his name was attached to the announcement "to suggest I've given the project my seal of approval".
He added: "I have no view on whether it should be remade but it doesn't have my blessing."
Originating as a stage musical in 1973, The Rocky Horror Show became a feature film two years later and has since attained an ardent and dedicated following.
