Tom Cruise thriller Valkyrie has had its release date moved for a third time.

The film, which revolves around a plot by insurgent German soldiers to assassinate Adolf Hitler, will open on December 26 this year.

The United Artists and MGM movie had originally been scheduled for a summer 2008 release. It was later pushed back to October, then again to February 2009.

Cruise and director Bryan Singer recently filmed additional scenes for the World War II thriller, prompting a release switch into a more lucrative, awards season spot.

Clark Woods, president of domestic distribution at MGM, said: "We saw and tested the movie and we believe a strong movie deserves a strong playdate."
