Tina Fey and Steve Carrell have signed up to appear in comedy Date Night.

According to Variety, the film follows the story of a couple's ordinary date night that turns out to be "much more than just dinner and a movie".

Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy will helm the project, while Josh Klausner will pen the script.

Speaking about the film, Levy said: "I wanted to do a relatable, grounded character comedy about marriage and the lengths we go to preserve the spark.

"Tina and Steve are smart and relatable, and the tone of their comedy perfectly fits this film."

Carrell and Fey are both nominated for Emmys for their NBC shows The Office and 30 Rock.
