The Hollywood icon's offspring Sean was a photojournalist who disappeared in the Cambodian jungle in 1970.
Sean, a Time reporter and CBS colleague are rumoured to have been captured by the Viet Cong or Khmer Rouge.
Before working in journalism, Sean worked as an actor and appeared in the sequel to his father's classic Captain Blood.
Witchblade creator Ralph Hemecker will direct the project. It is based on Perry Deane Young's book Flynn.
