Michael Stuhlberg and Richard Kind have been cast as the leads in new Coen brothers comedy A Serious Man.

Taking place in the US Midwest during the late '60s, the story centres on Larry Gopnik (Stuhlberg), a professor who witnesses his life fall apart when his wife leaves him and his socially inept brother refuses to move out of his home.

Stuhlberg, primarily a stage actor, has made guest appearances on Law & Order and Studio 60. Kind was a regular on Spin City and has also featured in films For Your Consideration and The Producers.

A Serious Man begins filming in Minneapolis next month.

Burn After Reading, the Coens' first film since the Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men, will arrive in UK cinemas on October 27.
