The show, which starred Julia Sawalha and Dexter Fletcher, ran on ITV from 1989 to 1993. It revolved around a group of comprehensive school pupils who run a newspaper.
Writer Steven Moffat, who will take over as Doctor Who showrunner for the next series, told The Sun: "I have always thought it would be tremendous for us to do it with the characters as they are now.
"You'd have the cast of Press Gang all old and saggy."
The programme won a Royal Television Society award and a BAFTA for Best Children's Programme (Entertainment/Drama) in 1991.
