The comedian will reprise his Forgetting Sarah Marshall role as out-of-control rock star Aldous Snow in new comedy Get Him To The Greek.
Brand, who kicked drink and drugs in 2003, said he is keen to act out his hellraising past on the big screen, joking: "The opportunity to revisit it without the consequences is exciting.
"I might even find a way of justifying using actual drugs. It's like, 'Well, this is acting, come on'."
The Judd Apatow-produced film stars Jonah Hill as a newly-graduated insurance adjuster hired to escort Brand's character from London to a gig at LA's Greek Theatre.
