Steven Pressfield's World War II novel Killing Rommel is to be adapted for the big screen.

Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have picked up the rights to the book, which tells the story of a British battalion's attempt to stop Nazi commander Erwin Rommel's desert campaign in 1942.

Pressfield will pen the script alongside Randall Wallace (Braveheart, Pearl Harbour), reports Variety.

Killing Rommel was published in the spring.

Bruckheimer's previous producing credits include Beverly Hills Cop, Pearl Harbour and Pirates Of The Caribbean.
