ROTK still rules roost in US

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is still the movie of choice for cinema-goers in the US, according to the latest box office rankings.

The climactic film held the top spot for the third successive weekend, taking around $30.8m (£17.0m) in ticket sales.

On the whole the top ten was largely unchanged on last week, with no new releases gaining entry. Brit comedy Calendar Girls shot up from 25th place last week to 9th place this week after expanding to an additional 745 theatres.

The last of the festive films, Bad Santa, slipped one place to ten after sales of $3.0m (£1.7m).
