The story, described as a hybrid of Risky Business and Fatal Attraction, focuses on a college intern who begins an affair with his boss's wife.
Wendy Miller wrote the script, while Michael De Luca, Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley are producing the film.
Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2009 with Verhoeven currently overseeing a script rewrite with Miller.
Verhoeven's other directorial credits include Total Recall, Showgirls and Starship Troopers. He is also attached to helm a sequel to Pierce Brosnan's The Thomas Crown Affair.
