IFC Films picks up Soderbergh's 'Che'

IFC Films has signed a deal to distribute Steven Soderbergh's new Che Guevara biopic Che.

Benicio Del Toro stars as the Argentine doctor in the four-and-a-half-hour movie, which is split into two parts and focuses on Guevara's revolutions in Cuba and Bolivia.

The film will be released in the US in December, making it eligible for Oscar consideration, although it is not yet known what form it will take.

"By giving us the rise and fall of one of the great icons of history, Steven Soderbergh and Benicio Del Toro, who gives an incredible soulful performance, have humanised [Guevara] and given audiences around the world something that will be discussed for years to come," commented IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring.

Che will be one of the movies featured at the BFI London Film Festival.
