New comedy documentary Religulous will remain relevant as long as religion stays in the headlines, according to director Larry Charles.

The auteur, who previously helmed Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, commented that the movie uses comedy to make a point about religion.

He said: "This is a hard subject and it’s a hard subject for people to hear their core beliefs threatened and questioned and by using comedy, it makes that a more palatable equation."

Charles has previously directed episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld.
