The stars spoke out at the London premiere of Righteous Kill, having last worked together in 1995 on Michael Mann's Heat.
De Niro told ITN: "I wish we'd done it sooner and I hope it won't take this long for us to do another project. I'd hope we'd do another one or two more at least. We've always had a great respect for each other."
Directed by Jon Avnet, Righteous Kill sees De Niro and Pacino play New York detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan as they attempt to discover the identity of a serial killer they suspect to be a cop.
Pacino said it was "comfortable" working with De Niro, though he said that their combined heavyweight screen status meant hopes for the film were high. "There's so much expectation it makes you think twice," he explained.
"I hope we do another picture together. We're thinking about that down the line and I see that people want to see it and that's good to know."
