Shia LaBeouf has admitted that he was terrified when CIA operatives showed him what they had in his file.

The actor had started filming new action thriller Eagle Eye when agents revealed how much they knew about his movements.

The film, directed by D.J. Caruso and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, casts LaBeouf as a slacker whose twin brother died under mysterious circumstances. He later finds that he has been framed as a terrorist and is forced to carry out a political assassination.

LaBeouf thought the film was pure fiction until he realised that operatives record telephone conversations and have inside information on celebrities, reports OK!.

"It is reality. The scary thing is sitting down with CIA operatives who use this stuff. They played me back phone conversations I've had. It was extremely embarrassing," he said.

Eagle Eye is due for release in the US on September 26, having been pushed back from August 8.
