Statham to headline 'The Grabbers'

Jason Statham will star in gold-digging drama The Grabbers, reports Empire.

The Transporter star revealed that the movie will be inspired by The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre - John Huston's 1948 film about three men's search for gold in Mexico - and scripted by David and Janet Peoples (Twelve Monkeys).

"It's not a remake or anything," he said. "But it's a little bit like that [film] - about relationships and how greed contaminates the relationships these three people have."

Statham's latest movie Death Race opens in the UK on September 26.
