The 47-year-old won this year's Best Supporting Actress award for her role in thriller Michael Clayton.
According to OK!, Swinton became tired of having the Oscar at her Scottish home.
"I took it to Scotland and everybody got bored of it after four or five hours. Believe it or not, I feel it's almost sacrilegious to say this, but it really doesn't mean that much to people where I live," she said.
"I have an American agent who is the spitting image of this [trophy]. There's no way I would be in America if it wasn't for him. I gave it away to my agent."
