The movie, The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, was released this summer without the star, who played Evelyn in the first two films.
Weisz remarked that with work on her movie The Brothers Bloom finishing at around the same time, it would have been difficult for her to fit the project in.
"In fact, I never even read the script because it was going to be, I think, five months in China, and it was just out of the question that I could do it straight after shooting my new film The Brothers Bloom," she said.
However, director Rob Cohen recently claimed that there was another reason why Weisz did not reprise the role of Evelyn in the movie, a part which eventually went to Maria Bello.
"I got a very angry phone call from her agent, saying she'll never play the mother of a 21-year-old. I said, 'OK, good, fine, bye,'" he said.
