'Cold Mountain' leads BAFTA nominees
The nominees for this year's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards have been announced today (Monday).

Leading the pack is American civil war drama Cold Mountain with a total of thirteen nominations including the prestigious 'Best Film' and 'Best British Film' categories. Lead star Jude Law is nominated for 'Best Actor' but suprisingly, costar Nicole Kidman has been overlooked for 'Best Actress'.

"I am delighted to hear that Cold Mountain, a film I'm immensely proud of, received so many nominations today," Law told BBC News. "It's a personal honour for me to be nominated among such a prestigious group of actors."

The final Lord of the Rings movie, Return of the King, pulled a total of twelve nominations, including 'Best Film' and 'Best Director'. Sir Ian McKellen got a nomination for the 'Best Supporting Actor' award for his role as Gandalf in the epic.

Sean Penn pulled of the feat of earning two nominations in the 'Best Actor' category for Mystic River and 21 Grams. His contenders include Benicio Del Toro, Bill Murray and Johnny Depp.

Despite being one of the biggest films of the year at the box office, Love Actually only garnered three nominations, for 'Best British Film', 'Best Supporting Actor' (Bill Nighy) and 'Best Supporting Actress' (Emma Thompson).

Stepehen Fry will return as host for this year's ceremony on February 15.
