'Wanted' helmer eyes 'Moby Dick'
Published Tuesday, Sep 23 2008, 12:31 BST | By Simon Reynolds
Timur Bekmambetov will direct a reinvention of Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick for Universal.
Adam Cooper and Bill Collage will pen the screenplay, which shifts the focus away from seaman Ishmael's narration of Captain Ahab's battle with a great white whale in favour of a "graphic novel sensibility".
"Our vision isn't your grandfather's Moby Dick, " Cooper told Variety. "This is an opportunity to take a timeless classic and capitalise on the advances in visual effects to tell what at its core is an action-adventure revenge story."
Bekmambetov directed this summer's Wanted and is behind the popular Russian Night Watch franchise.
