Guy Ritchie has insisted that his movie Swept Away did not deserve the criticism it received.

According to the director, the film would have been hailed by critics if he had released it before he became famous.

Instead, the movie, which starred his wife Madonna, went on to pick up five Razzie awards, which recognise poor quality films.

Ritchie told Complex magazine: "I like the movie. Both Swept Away and Revolver weren't supposed to be vastly successful movies. I was already established by then, but those are the kind of movies you should make before you're established. I went about it all wrong."

Ritchie's current film RocknRolla is in cinemas now.
