The director told IESB.net that the story is currently being written as a graphic novel by Frank Miller, with the movie to be produced after the book is released.
Snyder said he will have no input into the story, although he will direct, adding that it will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea (the battle narrator Dilos is at when he retells the plot of the original film).
Legendary Pictures confirmed a sequel to the comic book adaptation in June, revealing that it would be produced with Miller's cooperation.
"We want to be certain that the story originates with Frank and [is] as compelling as the first," said Legendary's Thomas Tull.
