The pair, who play Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez in the movies, are currently promoting the forthcoming release of the newest film in the franchise, High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Speaking to DS about the possibility of a fourth movie at High School Musical 3's London premiere, Efron admitted: "Well, our characters graduate, so I don't think that would work."
His comments were echoed by Hudgens, who fielded the same question with a reply of: "Well, we've graduated!"
Corbin Bleu, better known as Chad Danforth in the movies, refused to rule out continuing with the franchise, however. The actor confirmed that he would sign up for a new High School Musical project "if the means were correct".
High School Musical 3: Senior Year is released on October 22 in the UK.
