The actor claimed Hollywood is "a money-making machine" and said he prefers spending his time focusing on his music career.
"I don't watch movies. I don't care about them," he told Metro. "The movie business has tortured us long enough. It's a money-making machine and I don't like it."
He continued: "My ideal scenario would be to tour for three or four months a year, make two or three records a year and do one movie that pays me a lot of money.
"They won't make movies that mean anything to me, so I don't care what it is. I'll play a clown, anything.
"I love acting. I just don’t like the current state of the movie business and what is released."
He also said that directing movies "sucks" because it's such a long-winded and complicated process.
"I never want to direct another movie as long as I live," said the actor. "I'm not a director. I've never directed a good movie."
Thornton is currently promoting action thriller Eagle Eye.
