Jean-Jacques Annaud is close to a deal to direct D.B. Weiss's action script Kashmir.
The story centres on three former mercenaries who come out of retirement to capture a terrorist in the region between Pakistan and India and secure the $30 million bounty.
Weiss, who is currently working on an I Am Legend prequel, was inspired to write the story after hearing of the US government placing large bounties on the heads of known terrorists.
Annaud, the director of Seven Years In Tibet and Enemy At The Gates, is keen to film Kashmir as close to the story's location as possible.
Weiss told Variety: "I just received an email from him referring to his and my upcoming trip to Pakistan, which he said is necessary to feel the fear that comes with being a Westerner and knowing that any of these unfriendly eyes might want to do something to you."
Ryan Kavanaugh of Relativity Media and David Benioff will serve as producers.
