Gervais unsure about hosting Oscars

Ricky Gervais has claimed that he is reluctant to host next year's Academy Awards, saying that the job wouldn't offer him the creative "freedom" he desired.

The Office and Extras comedian told the BBC that he is in two minds about taking on the prestigious presenting job: "If it was a fun night and they said you could ad-lib, I'd do it because I really enjoy that."

When asked if he would accept an offer if it were presented, he replied: "Probably not, or maybe I would, but I'd be scared that it would be arbitrary."

He added: "I still want to be invited. I want the invite to turn it down."

Gervais was rumoured to be in line to host the ceremony last month, though Oscar chiefs quickly denied the claim.
