Darabont, who co-wrote the script with Kurt Wimmer, previously quit the project, prompting a scramble among Hollywood filmmakers to fill the vacated director's chair.
John Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious) had been interested in the project, but Gray (The Italian Job) eventually landed the job.
Law Abiding Citizen focuses on an assistant DA (Gerard Butler) who finds himself involved in a vigilante plot set up by a victim of the legal system (Jamie Foxx). Foxx's character seeks revenge on the killers of his wife and daughter when they are set free on a plea bargain.
