Hugh Grant has quit Working Title's new romantic comedy Lost For Words.

The actor left the project, which he agreed to star in last summer, over "creative differences", according to Variety.

Grant would have portrayed a British actor who stars in a movie for a Chinese director (Ziyi Zhang). After romancing a translator, he eventually falls for the director.

Susanne Bier is directing the film from a script by Jamie Curtis and Dan Mazer.

A spokeswoman for Grant said: "This was a case of creative differences. They were not able to get a script everyone agreed on but it's our understanding that Working Title is moving ahead with the project and Hugh wishes them well."

Grant has appeared in six films for Working Title, among them Notting Hill, About A Boy and Bridget Jones's Diary.
