The High School Musical actor rebuffed reports he would be setting sail with Johnny Depp in the series' fourth instalment.
"Honestly, at this time it's just a rumour," Efron told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. "I wish I was going to be in Pirates Of The Caribbean, so hopefully that will happen for me."
Disney confirmed a fourth movie in the franchise earlier this year, with Johnny Depp signing a record £32 million to reprise his role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
