Chris Columbus to helm 'Ripley's'?

The Home Alone director pitched for the movie, which was originally supposed to begin shooting in 2007 with Tim Burton at the helm.
Paramount and Jim Carrey, who is signed up to play newspaper columnist Robert Ripley, were impressed by Columbus's concept, according to Variety.
The studio is aiming for a 2011 release for the film, which has the potential to turn into a franchise.
