The drama, which revolves around the massacre of unarmed Vietnamese citizens by US soldiers in 1968, was axed during the WGA strike despite having a cast that included Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Woody Harrelson and Toby Jones.
Speaking to DS at the W. European premiere, director Stone said: "That's a story about the My Lai investigation. [It's] a very interesting story, but not on the cards right now."
Jones, who was cast as chief warrant officer Lt. Andre Feher, admitted that he is still eager to see the movie go forward.
"The reason [W.] happened was because [Pinkville] fell through so I don't know," he explained. "I hope it does, because it's an extraordinary script."
Stone's previous Vietnam movies include Heaven & Earth, Born On The Fourth Of July and Platoon.
