Al Pacino has called on the film industry to slash working hours for cast and crew members.

The veteran actor made the plea at the Rome International Film Festival, where he received a Marcus Aurelius award for career achievement.

"I don't think the long hours are good for the crew or the actors," Pacino is reported as saying in the New York Post, adding: "I don't think this is going to put me in good with the producers."

During the festival, the Oscar winner gave aspiring actors a few tips on how to achieve movie greatness.

"Learn your words, and how to rehearse, and then rehearse. My style is to allow the unconscious to be free, so you don't censor yourself," he said.
