Paramount has greenlit the movie, a remake of Kevin Bacon's 1984 film that takes place in a town where dancing has been banned, following the opening weekend box office success of Efron's High School Musical 3.
Efron's High School Musical director Kenny Ortega will helm the remake, with Peter Sollett (Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist) refining the script.
Songs from the original movie's soundtrack, which included 'Let's Hear It For The Boy', 'Almost Paradise' and 'Holding Out For A Hero', are expected to be in the new Footloose.
