Based on the children's book series by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the film will focus on musician brothers who are asked to take care of their dying aunt's flatulent dog.
The brothers' younger sibling Frankie, known as the "bonus Jonas", will also star in the movie.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the directors behind There's Something About Mary and Stuck On You, will produce and potentially direct the comedy.
Peter Farrelly expanded on the Walter plot to Variety: "By the time they've driven the dog home, everybody's head is out the window of the family station wagon but Frankie, and only because he has a serious sinus problem and doesn't notice the stench coming from Walter."
