The project is based on the biography of National Public Radio correspondent Jacki Lyden, who was on air after 9/11 and a broadcaster in Afghanistan during the fall of the Taliban.
Lyden is currently working on a book about the death of her translator, who was killed by an American soldier, and the lives of a small group of Iraqi friends.
According to Variety, the movie will focus on "how a woman's use of her mother's madness and delusions to empower herself".
Adams is also currently working on Doubt alongside Meryl Streep, and Ben Stiller's comedy sequel Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian.
