Gus Van Sant has signed up to direct a film adaptation of Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The 1968 novel focuses on One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest author Ken Kesey's drug-fuelled road trip across America with a group known as the Merry Pranksters.
They come to personal and collective revelations through the use of LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs.
Dustin Lance Black, the screenwriter behind Van Sant's upcoming political biopic Milk, will pen Electric Kool-Aid for studio Fox Searchlight.
