Will Smith and Steven Spielberg are in talks to remake of the violent Korean drama Oldboy, says Variety.

The 2003 original follows a man who is incarcerated for 15 years without explanation. Upon his release, he goes on a revenge-fueled mission to seek out his captor. Oldboy is the second film in director Park Chan-wook's Vengeance trilogy, which includes Sympathy For Mr Vengeance and Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.

Spielberg, who has reportedly been looking for a project to make with Smith, is in the process of securing the remake rights for DreamWorks and hiring a writer for the project.

Director Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) and Nicolas Cage had previously been linked with an Oldboy remake.
