Strong keen for Bond villain role

Mark Strong has expressed his desire to star as a James Bond villain opposite Daniel Craig.

The British actor, who appeared with Craig in the mid-'90s BBC drama Our Friends In The North, admitted that his chances of being cast in the next Bond movie could be slim because audiences may still recognise the pair from the Newcastle-set miniseries.

He told DS: "I've love to play a Bond baddie, yeah. I'm not sure I can though because they wouldn't let Geordie and Tosker be in the same movie!"

Strong, whose new movie Body Of Lies opens on November 21, added that he has maintained a strong relationship with Craig since the pair rose to prominence on Our Friends In The North.

"Daniel and I are really close friends, he's godfather to my little boy," he said. "I see him a lot. He’s grown up enormously. Its fascinating watching the change that's happened to him by taking [Bond] on board and being in the public eye.

"We occasionally speculate on how bizarre it was that we used to walk down the street in Newcastle and say, 'Is this any good, this thing we're doing?'"
