Director Baz Luhrmann has revealed that his epic movie Australia is not yet ready, despite its world premiere being scheduled for next week.

Luhrmann is flying back to Sydney from the US with just a day to spare to complete the edit on the film he has spent four years working on.

"I'm going back to the mixing desk to finish it in 24 hours," ITN quotes him as saying.

"It's right on the edge, we're right up against it. I literally have to on Friday night push that button. This is really dangerous, I hope there's no problem with the plane going back."

The film stars Nicole Kidman as an English aristocrat who inherits an Outback property and falls in love with a cowboy, played by Hugh Jackman. Jackman earlier claimed that it had been difficult kissing Kidman on set as the pair are such good friends.
