Carell, Brand join 'Despicable' cast

Steve Carell and Russell Brand are to voice characters in animated feature film Despicable Me.

The Universal movie tells the story of a man called Groo, played by Carell, who plots to steal the moon. However, his plans suffer a blow when a trio of orphan girls come into his life. It is not yet clear which part Brand will play.

Other stars lending their voices to the project include Julie Andrews, Will Arnett and Flight Of The Conchords star Jemaine Clement, according to Variety.

Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, who previously worked with Carell on Horton Hears A Who!, will pen the screenplay.

Despicable Me is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2010.
