The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Digital Spy followed the events live during the night, from the first award going to Tim Robbins (Mystic River) for Best Supporting Actor all the way through to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King's win of the Best Motion Picture award.
That final win for The Lord of the Rings capped a triumphant evening for the film, winning all eleven awards in the categories for which it was nominated. Peter Jackson took home the award for Best Director, saying:
"You're giving us an incredibly overwhelming night and I appreciate it so much. We had a wonderful cast and crew, thankyou to everyone who made my working day so enjoyable."
Other highlights include Sean Penn (Mystic River) and Charlize Theron (Monster) taking home the top honours for acting in a leading role. Renée Zellweger (Cold Mountain) won the award for best actress in a supporting role.
Finding Nemo won the best animated feature film of the year award, while Annie Lennox accepted the award for Best Original Song. She performed Into The West, from Return of the King, live.
Although Rings dominated the ceremony, other films did get a look-in: Lost In Translation won the award for Best Screenplay, and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World won cinematography and sound editing honours.
