Witherspoon: 'I didn't want an Oscar'

Rex Features

Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she was so nervous about giving a speech that she did not want to win an Oscar.

The actress, who picked up an Academy Award in 2006 for her performance in Walk The Line, claimed that she was scared of speaking in front of a celebrity crowd and a global TV audience.

"The whole time I was sitting there, hoping they wouldn't call my name," she told WENN. "Just because the idea of having to give a speech in front of everyone in the world is terrifying.

"It basically sums up who you are and you know it's going to be the clip that people show for the rest of your life. I don't know if you're ever prepared for that."

She continued: "[You hope] not to pass out on the way [to the stage] and not trip on yourself - or say any profanities or anything like that - because you know a few come to mind.

"I don't remember much about that night, I was in such a daze."
