The veteran actor, who played Bond in seven films, described Craig's previous roles in Munich and Sylvia as fundamental to his interpretation of the superspy.
"All of those parts were very, very different to one's conception of Bond. I thought he was absolutely marvellous," he said.
Moore, who was in Hong Kong promoting autobiography My Word Is My Bond, also revealed that he has met Craig once and thought he was a "charming guy".
