The Hollywood Reporter says that the actor will play Lt James Gordon, a Gotham City detective.
Christian Bale takes the lead role in the film, which also includes Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Katie Holmes among its cast.
Production has already begun in Iceland, with filming planned for London and Chicago in the coming months.
