Russell Brand is reportedly developing a new version of the 1981 comedy Arthur for Warner Brothers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a screenplay is being penned and the movie will be produced by Larry Brezner, the man behind Good Morning Vietnam and Little Britain USA.

The 1981 Arthur starred Dudley Moore as a playboy rascal forced to choose between money and love. The movie won an Oscar for its theme song 'The Best That You Can Do', while John Gielgud won the Academy gong for best supporting actor.

Brand, who recently resigned from the BBC over prank calls he and Jonathan Ross made to Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs, is currently filming Julie Taymor's adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest in the US.
