Daniel McDermott, who co-wrote Eagle Eye, is being tapped to write the new version, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original film, written by Diane Thomas, starred Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner and marked the first box office success for director Robert Zemeckis.
The 1984 film was followed by a 1985 sequel, The Jewel Of The Nile.
