Kevin McKidd has reportedly emerged as the lead contender for the title role in upcoming Marvel Comics movie Thor.

The Scottish actor, who rose to fame in Trainspotting, told IGN that there has been "a lot of back and forth" on the project, but nothing signed.

McKidd, who starred in the period TV series Rome, said it would be an exciting live-action venture under Kenneth Branagh's direction.

Thor, written by Mark Protosevich, is scheduled for release in June 2010.

The screenplay revolves around medical student Donald Blake, whose alter ego is Norse god of thunder Thor.
