The actor, who played Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, revealed that he will not be in the first of Guillermo del Toro's two movies based on the book, but there is a chance he will be in the second.
"People ask me about it a lot, and I say, obviously, 'Nobody's come to me'. But I won't be surprised if they do, if I'm right for it in their eyes," he told Ain't It Cool News.
"Obviously, as an actor who originated on film that role, I'd rather finish the job than see another actor do it."
Mortenson suggested that del Toro could choose to shoot flashback scenes or dream sequences involving the character, adding that he would be interested in appearing in such a scenario.
