The film, based on the axed US sitcom, was confirmed last month after Fox Searchlight signed deals with writer Mitch Hurwitz and producer Ron Howard.
However, Bateman said that he is unsure how much further the project has progressed. "I don't think [it has been written]. I know that Mitch has a couple of ideas, but he's really waiting to nail it down until he knows exactly who's going to be involved," he told ComingSoon.
He added that he expects the movie's plot to come together when producers know exactly which actors will return to reprise their roles.
"There are just a few more conversations to be had with some cast members to see if they want to be a part of it," he said.
"Once we get the headcount we'll be able to go forward with it and hopefully start shooting in the summer."
