A third franchise instalment is being written by The Office's Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, with Murray expressing an interest in seeing a girl Ghostbuster in the new movie.
Weaver, who played Murray's love interest Dana Barrett in the two blockbuster comedies, told MTV: "I've heard about it. I'm supposed to get in touch with Bill next week. Does he think we got married or something?"
The movie is rumoured to feature the old Ghostbusters training a new set of recruits. Weaver added that she wanted her on-screen son Oscar to feature prominently in the sequel.
"I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I'm not in it!" she said.
